Maciej, I've looked again at the traces. There's nothing suspicious. At time
757.443677548, the last read request has completed. From this moment upto
time 785.114136502 (at that moment you apparently called eject), the only thing
kernel did with the drive were probes from hald-addon-storage. These probes do
no IO. You can try stopping this device probing and running copy again but I
don't really think it will help.
The fact that the cracking noise happens only after you copy all the files is
really curious. I cannot imagine how that happens. When you copy all but one
file, is there the cracking sound?
