Dear Mr. Meixner,
thank you very much for your comments and the proposals. The weekend gave me
the chance to find some time for testing. Here is what I experienced.
I did several scans. The first series was, as you recommended, no preview,
start with a scan right away. I chose gray scale this time to save time and
file size for the PNM format. The resolution was 300 DPI. One thing I can say
for sure is that the problem has nothing to do with the JPEG file format. The
problem also occurs with PNM.
I did three scans in a row using xsane. The first two look fine, the third one
and the following ones have stripes.
I also tried it with preview. The preview looks fine, also the first scan. Now
the second scan, which is actually the third one after starting xsane, comes
with stripes. Restarting the program enables two scans without problems, the
third one comes with stripes. The stripes in the third scan after starting
xsane are reproducible - either with preview or without.
I also tried scanimage with 300 DPI resolution. The command line was:
scanimage --mode Gray --resolution 300 --lamp-off-at-exit=no -d
plustek:libusb:002:004 -x 215 -y 297 >./testimage_7th_scan.pnm
I got no stripes with seven scans in a row. Starting xsane afterwards again
resulted in stripes for the third scan and the following ones. So 3 seems to be
a critical number for xsane.
In the attachment, I have added two files. The first one is a second scan from
xsane without stripes, the second file is a third scan with stripes.
My impression after this testing is that there is a problem with xsane and not
with the backend.
Best Regards,
Peter Krummrich
