After booting to the above ( comment #17 ) configuration today, no network
connection again. I rechecked all the settings arrived at in comment #17, they
were still unchanged. But:
# service network restart

So it appears that dhcpcd is started, but somehow ceases to run after
"backgrounding", manually starting it resolves the issue.
Not sure what kind of log or other information could be useful, please advise.
