To get around this, removing the file /boot/efi/EFI/opensuse/installed_by_sdbootutil seems to be the only solution, especially since sdbootutil would take over managing grub2 if it finds it. What I don’t get is why during a package update, the /etc/sysconfig/bootloader settings aren’t used to decide which boot stack to use. sdbootutil shouldn't be in charge if LOADER_TYPE is set to grub2-efi. But I'm not totally sure, since suse-module-tools might be doing something different. Needinfo Alberto for his feedback/comments.
