So it basically works.
gimp-lang could have been misssing because
a) Gimp was originally installed using no-recommends (visible in the logfile)
or gimp-lang was not available or uninstallable at that time (hard to figure
out).
b) gimp-lang was deleted.
You could grep for gimp in /var/log/zypp/history.
@b) This should reveal when gimp was installed and whether gimp-lang has been
deleted after this (via libzypp, if plain 'rpm -e' was used you're lost).
@a) If you figured out the time gimp was installed, you can try to identify the
command in the zypper/yast logfiles.
To see the execution dates and commands included in a zypper/yast logfile you
can install the zypper-log package and execute:
zypper-log [-l logfile]
To extract the log of a specific command use
zypper-log [-l logfile] pid
if you find the right logfile , you can search for 'dontinstallrecommended='.
if it was set to '1/true' then no-recommends was used.
Otherwise the package was not available/installable, which is however not
visible in any log. You'd need to be able to reproduce it and create a solver
testcase to see what prevented the installation of gimp-lang.
