Well, in parallel, I reinstalled from DVD. Then went through the same steps as
before.
It appears, that in Yast2 Boot Loader Settings, Tab "Boot Loader Installation"
the boot loader location is set to "Boot from Extended Partition" combined with
Custom Boot Partition set to "/dev/sda3" by default. The proper partition is
/dev/sda5 though. After correcting this and rebooting ( !! ) the setting reads
now:
Custom Boot Partition /dev/disk/by-id/ata-SAMSUNG_HM250JI_S
