I doubt that you're already using KMS on 11.3.
Yeah, I do. Why do you think I don't? Intel driver 2.10 doesn't support non-KMS mode AFAICT.
Can't you adjust brightness level with xbacklight program?
I'm not now on the machine, it is a desktop with monitor connected via d-sub. I guess it won't work. In addition, the screen is black only in OA, not in gnome. It usually means, that the driver doesn't support that (a regression) or is buggy from what I googled.
