Summary: intel [G33]: openarena too dark with KMS Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jslaby@novell.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: ---
When I switch to KMS when migrating from 11.2 to 11.3 factory, openarena is dark. I need to use /r_overbrightBits 0 and still the output is ugly and darker than in 11.2.

I doubt that you're already using KMS on 11.3.
Yeah, I do. Why do you think I don't? Intel driver 2.10 doesn't support non-KMS mode AFAICT.
Can't you adjust brightness level with xbacklight program?
I'm not now on the machine, it is a desktop with monitor connected via d-sub. I guess it won't work. In addition, the screen is black only in OA, not in gnome.
It usually means, that the driver doesn't support that (a regression) or is buggy from what I googled. The HW apparently supports that or was emulated in non-KMS mode (I have no idea),

Then this might be not KMS, but Mesa related. But that's just wild guessing. We also updated Mesa/libdrm for 11.3.

Yeah, sure. I don't know how to test though. If you think this is upstream, please open a bug there and close this as upstream.

Cool :D. We are at 7 FPS now at the start point in openarena. From ~ 30 FPS last week.
And the darkness still remains.

Hmm. Direct rendering still enabled?
Yes. both xorg.log and glxinfo says so.
Now I got back to 11.3 xorg packages to try intellegacy. Darkness the same, but FPS is back to ~ 30 and I'm able to play the game (it doesn't lower).
Got an error on the bus though: Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 2c on CPU 0. Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled? Dazed and confused, but trying to continue
But I wouldn't care about it much. It's probably intellegacy thing only.

I guess so, yes. Indeed we cannot support intellegacy driver at all. Also it no longer builds against xorg-server 1.9.

37-rc6 is known to be broken on my intel G33, will test later. I usually run on the latest mmotm (-next plus other fixes)

Not at the moment. I've openend various SRs for openSUSE:Factory, which have not been accepted yet. Among these are a Mesa update (7.9 --> 7.10-pre) and xorg-x11-driver-video update with a newer xf86-video-intel driver.
