--- Comment #15 from Sebastian Gerecke 2008-11-25 07:06:17 MST ---
Sorry for the delay.
I tested kernel 2.6.28-rc6.
In console mode the screen brightnes does not change using the special keys.
gerecke@suse:~> grep . /sys/class/backlight/ -R
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/bl_power:0
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness:7
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/actual_brightness:7
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness:7
After pressing the brightness-down button an few times:
gerecke@suse:~> grep . /sys/class/backlight/ -R
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/bl_power:0
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness:0
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/actual_brightness:0
/sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/max_brightness:7
Yet, the actual brightness does not change.
I tried loading the i915 module, but it had no effect.
X won't start properly.
I tried starting it using the simple X and the startx command. Same results.
The screen turned black (real black, not the usual checkboard-pattern) and the
mouse-cursor showed up. The mouse was moveable, but I could not switch
terminals any more.
BUT : Pressing the brightness-down button an few times actually lowerd the
screen brightnes (the mouse-cursor got darker :-) )
I could't try xbacklight locally since I could't get back to the terminal or
start a xterm. I logged in via ssh and tried xbacklight but it just hang and
would't do anything.
Hope this helps :-)
