I've been thinking... a VRAM leak should really not freeze the system - rather,
the kernel should just refuse allocating memory. So if it is indeed a VRAM
leak, then we *also* have a kernel problem at hand, or faulty graphics
hardware/firmware locking up the data bus.
The leak itself should indeed be in Mesa... Can you look through /var/log/zypp*
whether you can find the last Mesa version that was still working?
In the end, I'm afraid I can only assist you so far - it's best to file an
upstream bug once you know a Mesa version that worked:
