Thanks Thomas.
I just tried using thermal.tzp again, and it actually does work eventually.
It's just that with the tasks I ran, the temperature still went to 86 or 87C
before it scaled down to 1200 MHz. I thought thermal.tzp=80 means it would
detect the high temperature after 8 seconds... it seems longer to me though.
My OpenSUSE 11 migration went fine without any of this.
I totally share you opinion about this requiring attention. I'm not sure why
the bug status is RESOLVED - isn't this a regression from 10.3 now? These
Thinkpad models have not ever had proper thermal support and they're about 5
years in their life cycle - apart from the fix you managed to merge in the last
OpenSUSE 10.3 kernel.
I actually don't mind adding command-line parameters to the kernel, but I also
think it would too much to expect the same from a non-technical user.
Niel
