--- Comment #15 from sep hoogzaad
The boot logo carried from EFI is the intentional behavior, BTW. This is a new feature for "flicker-less" boot on the recent kernel, enabled via CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE_DEFERRED_TAKEOVER option.
Might this have some negative effect? This needs to be checked, perhaps...
Yesterday i tried the drm-tip kernel. This is without the CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE_DEFERRED_TAKEOVER option.
git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/drm-tip make defconfig make sudo make modules_install sudo make install
This is with kernel version 5.0.0, r2. The problem was the same, like in the 4.20.3 kernel. With "i915.fastboot=1" booting correct. Without this kernel parameter: no screen, just some flickering. I also found that the following commands gave the same flickering screen from which i can not recover in an normal way:
xset dpms force off xset dpms force standby xset dpms force suspend
Maybe this is related, since it gives the same effect. I will report these two bugs (booting and the xset) also at: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/documentation/how-report-bugs I will do this later and include a video of the screen. I will refer to this report also. Note that none of this does happen with the 4.12.14 kernel from Opensuse Leap 15.0. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
