I think my dvd writer has an overheating problem. I made an iso from a video
dvd and the dvd was quite warm after the read operation. I then inserted a
blank dvd and received the /dev/sr0 timeout messages at sector 0, the write
process completed successfully but had a couple of DRDY timeouts and caused a
system slowdown. I burned a second dvd without errors but once again the system
slowed down considerably. At no time did the system lock up or oops I have
experienced this in the past and allowing the writer to cool down brings things
back to normal.
Having only one pata port on my mb and /dev/sda being on the same cable as
/dev/sr0 is a performance problem I have to live with but there is definitely
something amiss with the 2.6.27.7-4 kernel that goes wrong under stress.
I have a bootloader and other problems after updating from rc1 to 11.1 retail
from boxed dvd so I need to resolve those problems now. I will end up doing a
clean install possibly to x86_64 so we might as well close this bug, I will
reopen if it happens again when I start testing factory again.
