It is possible to setuid root mount.cifs with openSUSE-11.3. During the time
when release notes was prepared and finalized it was not possible to setuid
root mount.cifs without the compile switch. However, this has changed since
cifs-utils-4.2 and following commit:
commit 20a5ec8bd8ea3edb943adb517f378938e31f1c41
Author: Jeff Layton
Date: Thu Apr 1 15:29:59 2010 -0400
mount.cifs: re-enable setuid usage
Now that mount.cifs is safe(r) we don't need to disable setuid
capability by default.
The version we are shipping in 11.3 is 4.5 and so it is possible to setuid root
(I have verified myself). The release notes was not uptodate.
I'm not sure whether it is possible to update Release notes now.
Lars: Do you have any suggestion w.r.t what we could do further?
