With the workaround from comment #5 in place, I *cannot* reproduce
this. Only when I remove that workaround again, I get the message
Pango-WARNING **: Invalid UTF-8 string passed to pango_layout_set_text()
and the broken German Umlauts.
The underlying problem has to be solved by Adobe upstream, we already
reported this upstream.
It is strange why the workaround doesn’t work for you.
What are your locale settings (Output of thee “locale” command)?
Using any other GTK2 input method *except* xim also works around the
problem. You can choose the GTK2 input method with right mouse click
on the input field and then choose “Eingabemethoden” and select a
different one. “Cédille” might be a useful one for you as a German.
