The AB is designed to use the filter first and foremost to search for desired
items. It's much faster to type "browser" and get a filtered list of apps that
fit this category such as "F-Spot photo browser", "Epiphany web browser",
"Firefox web browser", "Nautilus file browser" or type "blue" to get a list of
3 (on my box) apps that deal with bluetooth stuff rather than manually hunting
for them. Also if the filter has focus and you narrow the list down to 1 item
then hitting enter launches that item. The point being that we want to
maintain focus in the filter box as much as possible so that the user can start
typing.
With that in mind if the user clicks on a group I think the focus should stay
in the filter box. However I agree in the case that the user is navigating with
the keyboard and has already moved the focus out of the filter and onto the
groups list then selecting a group should probably move the focus to the first
item in the associated group. So I guess the patch would need to be changed to
see if the focus is currently in the filter then don't change focus.
Thoughts ?
