what is SESSION_MANAGER set to ? on SLED10 it is:
local/t60sled:/tmp/.ICE-unix/3580
OTOH - this (unfortunately) still somehow manages to do some unfortunate
network things, rather than just using the file/pipe ;-)
IMHO the Mit cookie angle is bogus.
on SLED10 (admittedly), if I bin the 127.0.0.2 reverse lookup; I then get a
~20second xclock startup; but if I do:
SESSION_MANAGER= xclock
All is well. Clearly, we should fix this - but, still the system is broken
without a resolveable hostname: ping `hostname` means that even a console login
takes many seconds before you get a bash prompt.
