http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1140244 Bug ID: 1140244 Summary: Nvidia drivers not upgraded and not unconfigured: display manager fails with unspecific message Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Upgrade Problems Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: Ulrich.Windl@rz.uni-regensburg.de QA Contact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- This was observed when upgrading Leap 42.3 to Leap 15.1 ion a machine that had Nvidia drivers enabled when starting the upgrade: The Nvidia repository was removed before upgrade Upgrade performed without problem, PC booted OK, but: GDM displayed unspecific message like "Oops, something went wrong, please re-login" The interesting part is that I hadn't even a chance to log in, and pressing Enter, just repeated the same with some delay. It was not easy to find the reason for this, but evenually there was a message saying: gdm-Xorg-:0[2273]: (EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found) So I enabled the Nvidia repository and tried online-update for the next surprise: All the nvidia drivers were marked as "i", not as ">" in the ncurses yast, meaning the "current" version is already installed. Of course this was NOT true, and there were newer packages. After selecting each for ">", it took quite some time to get the packages compiled, and then I was able to log in to the upgraded system. Packages before Upgrade like this: nvidia-computeG03-340.104-11.1.x86_64 nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-default-340.104_k4.4.27_2-11.1.x86_64 nvidia-glG03-340.104-11.1.x86_64 nvidia-uvm-gfxG03-kmp-default-340.104_k4.4.27_2-11.1.x86_64 x11-video-nvidiaG03-340.104-11.1.x86_64 Packages after manual upgrade: nvidia-computeG03-340.107-lp151.12.2.x86_64 nvidia-gfxG03-kmp-default-340.107_k4.12.14_lp151.27-lp151.12.50.x86_64 nvidia-glG03-340.107-lp151.12.2.x86_64 nvidia-uvm-gfxG03-kmp-default-340.107_k4.12.14_lp151.27-lp151.12.49.x86_64 x11-video-nvidiaG03-340.107-lp151.12.2.x86_64 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
