I've just used "poweroff" and everything worked just fine. It shut off and
stayed off.
I powered it back up (after a few minutes) and this time I used the KDE dialog
to shut it down. This time it did *not* stay off.
After several cycles of this (testing for repeatability), I 'tapped' the power
button as the BIOS screen was displayed (before grub). It _beeped_ and shut
off. Then some few seconds later the power lights all came on again and it came
up.
So I logged in and issued 'poweroff'. This time it did *not* stay off.
It's pretty weak evidence, but it might be that using KDE to shut things down
is the "trigger", after which it doesn't behave properly.
If I had to, I could get a video.
