Unfortunately I don't have another computer or another cable available to test.
However, I doubt it is broken hardware because it works after unloading
ehci_hcd. And "modprobe ehci_hcd" makes it broken again instantly.
(Tested without touching the cardreader or the cable, so loose contacts can be
ruled out.)
In short: Unloading a module doesn't repair broken hardware, does it? ;-)
(And it would be quite strange if Joem's cardreader would also be damaged.)
@Joem: What happens if you downgrade your kernel again?
