http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555323 Summary: zypper dup did not update menu.lst at all Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vkrevs@yahoo.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.5) Gecko/20091103 SUSE/3.5.5-2.1 Firefox/3.5.5 I had followed the instructions in http://en.opensuse.org/Upgrade/11.2 to upgrade my openSUSE 11.1 for x86-64 to 11.2. Just before rebooting, I decided to check whether /boot/grub/menu.lst had been correctly updated. It turns out it wasn't updated at all - it still referenced the old 11.1 kernel entries only. So if I rebooted at this point, my desktop would not have booted up. I ended up reinstalling kernel-default, kernel-default-base packages via rpm -ivh --replacefiles --replacepkgs, and that added new kernel to menu.lst.
