Not quite :) There are actually two bugs in the package. The first one is that
the toplevel makefile uses the '-' prefix for the recursive make invocation
which makes make ignore the errors during buildingf and installing. The second
is that 'pkg-config --libs' is called before stating the objects to link. As we
use the --as-needed flag for the linker, the library must be named after the
objects so that the linker first sees the dependencies and then the library
satisfying them.
I'll submit patches for both to the devel project in the OBS and will leave
possible official updates for irda-utils in openSUSE 11.2 up to the maintainer.
