So we should now concentrate on the problem - grub should be able to write a bootrecord to a partition to support multiboot via chainloader. http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install_Gentoo_with_NVRAID_using_dmraid 6.5.1 Installing grub Method 1 describes how to write a bootrecord other than MBR. This method works e.g. for ubuntu and redhat base distributions, but it fails in case of openSUSE ( 279837#7 ). Which is the correct way to install a bootrecord to dmraid controlled diskconfiguartion on NOVELL ? Please keep in mind, that some SATA RAID contollers support only RAID disks. Just a note, none of the distributions was able to write during installation a bootrecord to a partition, all the time an MBR was written, but one could fix the problem later with the above described method. At RedHat I have opened an entry for this problem : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=225551 I hope this helps.
