BUT, as I wrote before, this problem exists on other distros (Ubuntu 6.06 aka Dapper Drake) and other HP laptops (HP nx6310) with somewhat other CPUs (CeleronM). I have installed Suspend2 for linux http://www.suspend2.net/ and the hang before bios_splash_screen_appears (HP logo and stuff) disappered. Now my CPU speed & battery status are shown correctly. It uses custom build kernel+some own packages. There also are rpms for SUSE. Dapper uses older kernel, 2.6.15-26, but I've had SUSE 10.1 with 2.6.16(?) and the problem existed. Give suspend2 a try, it might help somehow. Since it is only one rpm, I don't see how it could be incomplete/inconsistent, except this libzypp version wouldn't work with the default Zen components.
