I have a patch that removes the somewhat old code that reads exif manually and instead makes it use libexif. Verified to work with remote X and vnc (uses local xdcmp). remote-x-desktop doesn't allow anything by default though, the admin still has to decide what needs to be allowed. I patched ftbench to do the benchmark. The benchmark result of the new algorithm of FZSongTi.ttf is around 175 us/op. While the result of old algorithm around 170 us/op.
