I tried setting the hibernate strategy in /etc/pm/config to "userspace", and it freezes during suspend (on a message like "snapshotting system"). First my little moon-shaped suspend light flashes for a while, then it stops flashing in the off state and the machine is frozen (but with the display still lit -- not suspended). I tried setting the hibernate strategy to "kernel" and it seems to start hibernating, gives a bunch of USB messages, says CPU 1 is offline, then appears to start up again immediately and gets a bunch of I/O errors on sda (the hard drive) and says CPU 1 is up and then freezes. Suspend to RAM works fine on the same machine. I have downloaded and burned the 5 isos for Suse Linux 10.2 and cannot get it to install. I have downloaded and burned (at 24X) the iso for the boot disk 3 times. When I try to install, a message flashes that the magic numbers of the image are bad and the machine just reboots over and over every time I type in 'linux' at the prompt. I have completely cleared the harddisk. I don't think it is a hardware issue because SL 10.1 ran perfectly on the same machine. In fact, if you could tell me where I could get isos 4 and 5 for SL 10.1 I would be off to the races. I also reinstalled SL 10.1 and it went perfectly. BTW, I downloaded my boot isos from several sites. They are all identically defective. On initialising installation, a 'segmentation fault' occurs preventing the user from entering configuration details. SUSE proceeds to login GUI, whereby no account has yet been setup. Running a 'repair installation' does not cure the problem. Beside this I've a patch for pidof which skips the stat() for NFS file systems by using the /proc/mounts with setmntent() and getmntent() to get a list of all nfs file systems currently known by the system. I connected with a VNC client and after a while, during "Parsing Files... reading translations: packages.en" I've seen on the console of the system: Segmantation fault at Packages.ycp:930 afterwards the vnc connection was interrupted. I would like to give you more logs - but have no idea how to access them. Now I can see in slapd logs unwanted searches e.g.: sshd_conf has all keyboard password mechs disabled, UsePAM is set to no,AllowUser set to limited users, and when I connect with sshd to this machine as user ivo I see (I suspect nss library, because debug options is added to pam_unix2 and no traces in the logs)) unwanted ldap search against system user database stored in ldap - log is in the attachment. Same behaviour is when users performs pop3s logins to cyrus and same when postfix tries to resolve final email recipient (local user). I installed already SL9.2 machine with same config and in 9.2 there no redundant/unexpected/untraceable ldap searches performed. If the connect fails, there's NO error-message AND i have to disconnect manuelly - even if there's no connection. The networkmanager-status should change to disconnected if the modem-connect fails. With the UMTS-Card i need a password-authentication by the first try. For a second try it's not allowed to re-authenticate - would be perfect, if we could create something, to support that better. The UMTS-Card can have UMTS or GPRS connections. With AT-Commands it's possible to find out the current status of connection. Maybe we can visualize this by icon in the system tray. If the modem is connected, the knetworkmanager doesnt change the online-status for other application (knetwork-daemon) - so kmail feels offine - but thats wrong.
