Unfortunately there is no trace in journal or messages of that failed boot. However "last" seems to record those. I usually sleep my PC at the end of the day and resume it back the next morning. Recently, after some update (?), when I resume from suspend X crashes and I'm presented with a login screen, and all running apps from the previous session are now gone. This issue does not happen every time, but it happens most times I resume from sleep.
