If I run the following command in a shell, it requires less than a second: $ cd software/linux-kernel && time git grep -w interrupt | head -n 1000 >/dev/null real 0m0.018s user 0m0.020s sys 0m0.029s If I run the same command in Emacs and let Emacs store the output in the `*grep*` buffer (Alt-X grep) then more than a minute elapses: cd software/linux-kernel && time git grep -w interrupt |& head -n 1000 [ ... ] real 1m21.903s user 0m0.036s sys 0m0.026s This is much slower than a few weeks ago and so slow that it makes Emacs almost unusable.
