The suggested boot option solved the issue for me. I've added snd_hda_codec_hdmi.enable_silent_stream=0 in the GRUB entry and the system is functional again. Tried a reboot without this entry and ended up with a frozen system again. It looks indeed like a regression in the HDMI audio system. Firefox tabs now crash on StackOverflow, LinkedIn, Reddit and probably much more. The whole Firefox instance crashes on about:support. It might be related to Wayland. An interesting thing is: /usr/bin/firefox crashes. /usr/lib64/firefox/firefox doesn't crash. Therefore it must probably be somewhat related to the environment. The following error is in the console (only when a tab/instance) crashes. Can't find symbol 'eglSwapBuffersWithDamageEXT'. In this case, it is calling the old "wrapper_storage" method [1]. But I am not understand why this part of the code was not executed before. Maybe there are other changes that makes to yast-registration to use this now. Adding to trello.
