I use "gio mount smb://server/share" to access the files on the share. While most applications can read/write well on the mounted share, some application crashed or produced corrupted files, e.g. https://github.com/h5py/h5py/issues/1170 I could reproduce the problem using the 'w+' file access mode (open file for reading and writing). Seeking in the file once forth and then back again will produce errors on subsequent reads. At the end of this bugreport, I listed a small C and a Python3 example to reproduce the error. Running the C example, wrong data is read, whereas the Python3 example quits with OSError due to unsuccessful reads. When I mount the share via mount.cifs the tests work as intended. So there is no problem with the samba server but with "gio mount". Currently I need to select the user from a dropdown menu. see https://raw.githubusercontent.com/os-autoinst/os-autoinst-needles-opensuse/… The option to specify the username via text field exists, but is only accessable at the bottom of the dropdown menu. This is not very nice to use, when there are many users available on the system (or the computer has NIS). Most of the other login managers fall back to a textfield for username selection, when there are too many users or make the button that shows the textfield easier accessable. The XFCE login manager should do this as well. Indeed most packages shipped by openSUSE Factory switched to native systemd unit files years ago and we plan to drop the obsolete/limited SysV compat support in the future. If this appears to be a big task, one quick way to solve it is to copy and ship (as is) the .service unit wrappers generated automatically by systemd-sysv-generator at boot. Indeed such wrappers are generated by systemd in order to support SysV init scripts similarly to native units. You can see the content of a wrapper unit with: $ systemctl cat <sysvinit-script>.service As you could see the wrapper unit simply calls the SysV script, which should be moved out of /etc/init.d, probably in a directory owned by your package.
