See lower quarter of the page When selecting the section "Syntax: Rule expressions" in the given URL and trying to print that selection with option "Ignore Scaling and Shrink To Fit Page Width" (GNOME, capitalizing is somewhat odd there, BTW) marked, some lines are truncated on the right, i.e.: they do NOT fit page width. I did hit it with no problem last Friday, but for some reason I can't reproduce it anymore. You see, I was experimenting with bumblebee/nvidia driver a lot over the weekend to workaround nasty nouveau problems, tried different kernel versions, etc. And after that I don't have any problems with bluetooth headset, even with stock kernel and firmware. I don't use plymouth and have splash=verbose in my kernel command line. I haven't tried with plymouth enabled, except of course the Live KDE DVD. I did a new install to a HD in a USB 3 external case, partitioned similarly to my main HD (i.e. GPT, 4 primary partitions, 1=EFI, 2 & 3 is root and home (ext4), and 4 is swap. After installing, so far, it boots fine with the same packages and hardware, except my original system has over 6000 packages and the new system only ~2500. I plan to install packages into this new system to match my original system until I can track down the problem package/program. I started last night, and noticed the new system did not have acpid installed, and uninstalling it on my main system actually allowed 4.18.5 to boot normally once. I thought I had it, but the next boot attempt was the same problem. Hopefully I can install in small coherent enough groups to track down the problem in my new "test" system. Looks like not so > many applications still use X11 core font rendering. ;-) Exactly. /usr/share/fonts/encodings/encodings.dir is as pointless as /usr/share/fonts/encodings/fonts.{scale,dir}, as it provides information about the encodings for the *fonts* below /usr/share/fonts/encodings/, which is zilch, nada, nothing. For the actual font directories, e.g. /usr/share/fonts/75dpi/, /usr/share/fonts/truetype/, ... all three files (fonts.scale, fonts.dir, encodings.dir) have to be created after installing or removing any font (unless you can guarantee only a single package ever installs a font into a directory, then you can prebuild and ship these files). BTW, xset fp rehash is also pointless in the combination with the encodings/encodings.dir, unless you manually added the encodings dir to the *font* path (but why would you?).
