If XQueryTree gives more than 256 children, it trashes some random memory behind the array. The RedHat bug has no solution yet but links to two similar bugs from Debian and Ubuntu. Unfortunately none of them seem to contain much useful information. The Debian bug is a different kind of crash (crash when accepting client, was fixed in libvncserver library) and the Ubuntu one is "fixed" by switching from system to internal libvncserver library (but we are already using the internal one).
