As shown in the attached logs, zypper in --recommends pkg will select recommended packages only if the main pkg comes from the oss repo. If pkg comes from packman the recommended 'youtube-dl' is not selected. The same bug happens with vlc and its vlc-codecs subpkg, even in SLE12. My expectation is that --recommends always selects what is recommended, no matter where pkg comes from. OK, after disconnecting all drives and inserting a DVD (which got the thing out of whatever EFI drunken stupor it was in), and redoing bios boot setup, all is well (whew). I can boot everything just fine. I don't think I _ever_ want to play with that efibootmgr thingy again though.
