At some point all calls to systemd fail, like dbus[882]: [system] Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.systemd1': timed out There are no other related log messages hinting to a problem in systemd before. This seems to happen independently of the use of the machine. Systemd won't respond to anything after that. All systemctl calls fail, ''kill 1'' and ''kill -9 1'' don't work, also reboot/shutdown won't work. Rebooting the machine fixes the problem temporarily. Do you have suggestions how to debug this? If I try booting the install DVD (written to a USB), I also get a blank screen. If I disable secure-boot in the firmware, I then get a normal boot menu and am able to boot. If I re-enable secure-boot, I again get a blank screen. I'm fine with having this for Tumbleweed but I'm objecting to it for Leap (>42.1). Leap is considered to be a stable product while Wayland and XWayland is still quite experimental. Unless we figure out how to achieve this I'm afraid we need to revert this change. Stefan, do you have any suggestions? Moreover we should ask for volunteers who help to maintain it. openSUSE is pretty much a community effort, therefore I believe it is not too much to ask.
