Please boot one of your machines that show the problem with: systemd.log_level=debug systemd.log_target=kmsg log_buf_len=1M debug and remove the 'quiet' boot option. If I catch the soft lockup within a few minutes, I can still login over ssh and reboot the machine. After 5 minutes or so, login does not work anymore - password is accepted, but no login prompt - over ssh or console. Because you aren't prompted for the password, apache2 times out and fails to start during boot. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. sudo systemctl enable apache2.service 2. sudo /sbin/shutdown -r now 3. sudo systemctl status apache2.service # failed - timeout during pw entry for SSL cert. Actual Results: Actual Results: Apache fails to start during boot. I have to start manually and enter password for self signed Cert. in terminal when prompted. Expected Results: Expected Results: Apache2, when using an encrypted certificate for ssl (https), should prompt the user for a password during boot.
