Also when such RPMs are uninstalled cupsd must be restarted because a restart of cupsd is needed whenever print job processing has changed, cf. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=888782#c0 For example when in a minimal system only cups-filters-ghostscript and cups-filters-foomatic-rip are installed, then printing "text/plain" is not supported. For example "echo hello | lp -d <queue_name>" fails with "lp: Unsupported document-format text/plain". To support "text/plain" the package cups-filters is needed because it provides in particular the printing filters /usr/lib/cups/filter/textto* together with a matching /usr/share/cups/mime/cupsfilters.convs To let cupsd recognize the changed print job processing, it must be restarted. The question is whether or not is is a good idea to automatically restart the cupsd by RPM postinstall scriptlet and also restart the cupsd by RPM postuninstall scriptlet for RPMs that provide printing filters or change the conversion rules. The kernel seems to block while loading the initrd, but the same kernel and initrd is used for the host where it works fine. The appliance is build on top of openSUSE 13.1, including maintenance updates. The last line I see is "Unpacking initramfs", the "Freeing" line does not appear in the guests. Also, the kernel is not answering on any sysrequests at that point of time. A variation of these images are used for our official OBS workers, where such problems do not exist. So it might be a hardware specific problem. We are using a Dell system with "Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU". At least not all three. There are three issues I see: 1) why the binaries contain data blob in the first place? 2) all of them contain 18M of identical data, why? 3) why the hell is the structure double[3], when the values are -106..100? signed char[3] should be far enough. The attached patch reduces the rpm size by 50M by doing 3). 1) should be done by uncommenting the code in lab_gamut_quadtree().
