Initial installation runs smooth. The boot parameter "memmap=64K$0K" is correctly used for booting the installation system. The installation routine reboots automatically causing system hang with the last message "Loading initial ramdisk...". Booting the rescue system and inspecting /mnt/boot/grub2/grub.cfg (the installation disk being mounted on /mnt) we find the entry "memmap=64K/usr/sbin/grub2-mkconfigK" instead of "memmap=64K\$0K" (beware the backslash!). Inspecting /mnt/etc/default/grub we find the same erraneous entry instead of "memmap=64K\ ßß$0K" (beware 3-fold escaping here!). Apparently YAST added/passed the boot parameter from the installation screen directly in an incorrect manner so that subsequently grub2-mkconfig expanded $0 to its basename. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start Installation with YAST 2.Enter additional boot option "memmap=64K$0K" 3.Start installation 4.Perform usual steps to select/configure the installation process 5. Let it run... Actual Results: System hangs without any further indication. Expected Results: System should not hang but boot the second time and continue installation process. YAST should correctly escape '$' into '\\\$' (3-fold!) when using grub2 (only then?!) and creating /etc/default/grub This BUG is related to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=857464#c8 But here we talk about an independent issue of YAST which creates a faulty grub.cfg! It is no solution to enter "memmap=64K\$0K" on the installation screen. In this case the initial startuo fails already! I changed it to the "multi-user" target, planning to use "startx" to start X. After the reboot, when I logged in with my (non-root) account and ran "startx", it failed and suggested that I edit "/etc/permissions.local" However, editing "/etc/permissions.local" had no effect.
