It will just say "Error: Can't open display:" Re-enabling IPv6 fixes the issue but is not desirable as IPv6 support remains unavailable in many areas. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Disable IPv6 on a remote machine 2.ssh -X in from other machine 3.try to run something like xclock Actual Results: You get a Error: Can't open display: message. The systems freezes directly after issuing [CODE] Loading initial ramdisk ... [/CODE] Cause: The root cause is that the "$" character needs to be escaped even in /boot/grub2/grub.cfg. Multiple escaping is necessary when using the "official" configuration files due to several bash sourcing and $-sign "interpretations". On request to hibernate from menu, the user is asked for the root's password, but this is presented behind another dialog window, and can not be moved - see attached photo -. User has to blindly type the password hoping it goes to the right place. The situation is absurd for other reasons: the user is in front of the machine, so he can just pull the plug. The seated user should have the privilege to do certain things, as he has to mount devices and such. Further, the user is not asked for permission to power off the machine or reboot it. I only updated the installed programs. I access the systems with a text mode console via ssh. Now when I am editing files using the 'the' editor, character that I type when in input mode do not display on the screen. The cursor, however, does advance. And, if I manually refresh the screen (pageUp/pageDown), the characters show up. I could not find any mention in the release notes of any changes to default terminal configurations. I am at a loss as to where to look to correct this problem. Insert mode in vi, however, seems to work. On both of my (quite old) laptops (a Lenovo N500 64 bit and a eee-pc 32 bit) in addition also the compat-drivers package was selected. This caused a severe bug on the system: The system could not properly reboot anymore. After deinstalling the compat-drivers rpm everything was back to normal. Interestingly also kooka itself worked without any problems.
