Then, connected to a large, public shared network (local library system) and all my VM networking died. Upon further investigation, it seems that the Admins for this large, public shared network changed their address space to use the Default Class A Private Network space using the default subnet mask. The characteristics of this particular configuration is that only one network is possible while maximizing the number of possible Hosts. The effect on KVM and any other type of solution that sets up a real or virtual network "behind" the publicly shared network leading to the internet is that because all networks must share the same address space (because it's the Class A Private Network using the default subnet mask) no routing is possible. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: No Steps to reproduce should be required, the description should be sufficient and self-explanatory. Actual Results: All KVM networking is killed. Although no one should ever setup a Class A Private Network using the default subnet mask, it should be easy to see that not only is it possible and maybe even likely if the Admins are not sufficiently experienced or knowledgeable. In the interests of minimizing possible network address space collisions and improving the chances that an initial setup would work, perhaps another address space could be considered. Using a default subnet mask, there are 15 possible Class B networks (most using 16, the lowest second octet) while still supporting a multitude of possible addresses. There are even more possible Class C networks (using the default subnet mask) but of course with only 253 possible Host addresses, but is that sufficient? But when I resume the laptop, it will sometimes come back to life ok (many times not), but when I suspend again, it will certainly fail to resume. On resume I hear the HD spin up and the dvd drive being accessed, and then the laptop is turned off. After a few seconds it starts by itself again, I hear the HD spin up and the dvd drive being accessed, but then it stops with a black screen, lights indicating something is running, but for the rest nothing. Numlock and Capslock don't show reaction, completely dead. I have to press the power button for a few seconds to shut down and then reboot normally. I have looked into the logs but can't find anything in the logs about this resume attempt. I have a great running system, everything works as should, very stable, except suspend to ram. It boots and allows selection of options. The Network DVD (which allows an update install) does not recognize the USB Keyboard or mouse. BIOS does recognize them so that I can make BIOS changes. The Network DVD iso was obtained via DownThemAll and it does MD5 comparison while downloading. Download showed it was good. But because the installer on the DVD will not recognize the keyboard, then upon time-out, boot from HD is done. Keyboard and mouse are hardwired to mobo using the defined slots for keyboard and mouse (Gigabyte Mobo, 8GB of memory, dual core AMD 64 bit Athlon, 4200+) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download the Network Install for 12.3 2. Using K3B to burn DVD 3. Boot DVD Expected Results: Ability to use arrow keys, tab or something to select on of the options or stop the countdown clock. The GNOME LIVE DVD works just fine.
