Update to the latest aaa_base: zypper in --force aaa_base Now check the content of /etc/adjtime Instead of LOCAL you will find UTC. (Very useful for checking deadkeys etc. Also, this is a standard feature e.g. of Ubuntu's Ubiquity installer.) The workaround I found for this was to click the Help button, and then enter something in the search field. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Insert install CD/DVD/USB drive 2. Choose Install option 3. Wait. 4. On the screen appearing now, you can set the language and keyboard layout. Actual Results: There is no text field to try the layout. The problem now is that grub2 always asks for user and password and booting an grub menu entry offered is only possible if you know the user and password. So what I would like to achieve is the equivalent of password --md5 <password> in grub1. To configure password protection in grub2 I edited /etc/grub.d/40_custom and added: set superusers="root" password_pbkdf2 root grub.pbkdf2.sha512.10000.3C6BB ..... No I can only boot linux (or any other system) if I enter the configured user and password although the system should only ask me for a password if try to edit the grub config by pressing "e". So at the moment there is no way to allow anyone to boot a system but prevent him from editing grub2 boot menu config. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Edit /etc/grub.d/40_custom like described above 2. run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg 3. boot the system Actual Results: grub2 always asks for a user and password, without both you can no longer boot. The resulting -mini binary packages are consecutively lacking some features. Release of the -mini binaries is suppressed for GA. These packages do appear however in http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.3 When kiwi installs an initial boostrap system to chroot into, zypper chooses e.g. udev-mini for that if updates are included. If the later installation of the final package set requires a fully featured udev, zypper asks the user what to do. Kiwi however regards any zypper question as error and the image build fails. Kiwi descriptions have meanwhile been updated to request the complete udev for the bootstrap system as a workaround. Nonetheless the update process is still broken, IMO.
