I can fix this by running Gibson's SpinRite for just a short time. SpinRite reports no errors or fixes, but after running it, the system reboots properly. Actual Results: The first window appears correctly translated (loading modules, etc.), then closes to show the main UI. The main UI is untranslated (English), although the translation package is installed (see screenshot). Expected Results: The UI should be correctly translated. I've rebooted this system - with openSUSE 12.3 installed (upgraded from 12.2) - multiple times, but today something went wrong. A thorough investigation showed me that the udev rules for interface naming were *not* being applied. Multiple reboots later, I still had no success. I manually moved the file: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules to someplace else, edited *all* of my network-related configuration files, changing eth1 to eth0 and vice versa, and rebooted. It finally worked. Once the machine came back up, I checked. The file: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and the approach of consistent device naming taken is appropriate for this version of systemd, however I found the following in my logs: Mar 21 19:52:57 goblin.local systemd-udevd[317]: error changing net interface name eth1 to eth0: File exists Mar 21 19:52:57 goblin.local systemd-udevd[316]: error changing net interface name eth0 to eth1: File exists That's very irritating. It meant that on startup, eth0 was eth1, and eth1 was eth0. This is a security issue (since firewalls use the device name for inside/outside/dmz/etc.) Major bummer. I would like my openSUSE 12.2 laptop to quickly connect to it after I have done so. I am running KDE on a Dell Studio 15. The method that I use at present: I slide the hardware enable/disable switch to the disabled position, which disables wireless in Network Manager. I then switch it to enabled, and Network Manager rescans for networks and immediately connects to the new hot-spot. You'd think I could simply toggle the "Enable wireless" check-box in Network Manager to achieve the same effect, but there is a bug which prevents the network from being re-enabled. The check-box is greyed out and can't be selected. Further attempts to enable the network only make the problems worse - killing the network manager and/or restarting networking via a command prompt are not reliable, and the network is often still disabled. Yet if I've got the check box greyed out, toggling the state of the hardware disable switch can enable wireless again. This is both a bug report and a feature request. Please fix the greyed-out check-box issue, and please add a feature (e.g. a button) to force a rescan of the network. Other competing OSes have this feature, and it is urgently needed. Waiting for it to rescan on its own is very painful when you really really want to get online with a newly activated hotspot. Poweroff does not. That's inconsistent. In addition, KDE suspend will lock the screen immediately, which would be ok except it locks the screen without letting me enter the su password to suspend. So when I press suspend, the screen locks and the laptop does NOT go into suspend. Then when I unlock the screen, I am prompted for the superuser password, which, if entered, will then suspend the laptop. Very awkward setup. (And the kicker per another bug report https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=731294 is that on leaving suspend, does not prompt for password and goes right back into OS) On OpenSuse 12.2 RC2, with thinkpad x61.
