In openSUSE 12.2 it still works - but cron always mails me a line " ...killed." This looks similar to the issue described in bug 752424, but is still a different problem. In fact while in the overview mode, you can even catch hold of these applications (keep left mouse button pressed on the application) and move them to the other workspaces! Once this ugliness happens, it keeps happening unless gnome-shell is restarted, upon which it disappears and I get back the sane arrangement of current workspace windows in the activities overview. Please have a look at the attached screenshot to see what I mean. This happens on all sorts of graphics cards by the way. I have seen this on my ATI chipset with open-source radeon drivers, on Nvidia chipsets with the nouveau drivers and on Intel's chipsets too. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. It indeed triggers OOM killer which kills firefox and thunderbird first, then sends my X session down. Usually I have to press sysrq-e to get rid of the livelock. As this kills irreversibly a whole running system, setting severity as critical. <no need to read this> I remember Lennart saying systemd codebase swallowed only small utilities which are and will be bug-free. Maybe they should reconsider touching working software with their dirty hands given they did not break it for the first time now.
