Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. During initial stage of setup, Select 'minimal installation' 2. On the installation summary screen, enter 'Software Selection' 3. Manually select 'KDE desktop' pattern 4. Continue installation. Actual Results: Installation will continue until mkinitrd is executed. mkinitrd will report an error, saying it cannot find libpng12.so. Expected Results: mkinitrd succeeds. I suspect this is simply a missing RPM dependency, caused by the move to libpng14. I've marked this as critical for two reasons: 1. It can cause an install to fail (always creates a bad impression). 2. When I clicked OK, the gui-installer exited to the text mode one. Starting the gui installer then (again), the system was not found on partition. Grub has not been updated, however the initrd and vmlinuz symlinks could be used to start the system via grub console. I fixed grub then and restarted the installer for update which found the 11.3 system. Some packages installed and the installation finished; however, I am not sure all the packages are what they show in yast / if they have been really installed/updated or if they are just in package db. It's needed for starting X as unprivileged user, e.g. via startx. That method is deprecated in favor of a display manager since years. Also modern environments rely on device ACLs and polkit privileges which in turn depend on consolekit tracking the active console. That doesn't work with startx anyways. So the setuid bit is of limited use by default anyways. No setuid bit also prevents exploitation of the kernel-heap-stack overflow problem via X as X cannot be started in a user controlled environment then. Therefore I'd like to remove the setuid bit on Xorg for 11.4 from /etc/permissions.easy (no packaging change in X needed). Those who really need it can still set it again in permissions.local.
