opensuse 11.1 is obsolete, and furthermore pulseaudio is mandatory in current
versions, hence this bug won't be fixed.
Skip : If you still have issues in Sled please copy this bug and open it
against Sled, since that is still in support.

Hi Steve and Dominik
Is this still a problem with current releases of opensuse / ekiga?
I also have a logitech ( that uses the uvc driver) and I have no issues without
the plugin installed. - ie its not needed anymore.
I will mark this bug as resolved upstream, but please reopen if this still is a
issue for you.
(note - I see that we don't even have libpt2-plugins-v4l2 available anymore
justlibpt2-plugins-v4l )

I suspect this applies to all openSuSE versions. The update to php 5.2.10-29.1
breaks the pear command line installer. I don't know why.
It seems that the following files are incomplete:
/usr/share/php5/PEAR/.channels/pear.php.net.reg
/usr/share/php5/PEAR/.channels/pecl.php.net.reg
Now when you attempt to update pear you get:

I don't have any idea why or how the files are incomplete, but here is a
synopsis from the pear forum:
http://www.pear-forum.org/post-5065.html
Perhaps, you can patch the build service version. Thanks.

Summary: PHP PDO::mysql always connects to invalid socket

The PDO::mysql always tries to connect via UNIX socket /tmp/mysql.sock (unless
another socket is specified). This socket does not exist due to MySQL
configuration. Further, connecting via TCP with PDO using MySQL backend is not
possible.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
$dsn = 'mysql:dbname=test';
$db = new PDO($dsn, $user, $passwd);
Actual Results:
Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'PDOException' with message 'SQLSTATE[HY000]

line 13
Expected Results:
a database connection
With openSUSE 11.1 the socket for MySQL is /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock
Specifying this socket as DSN works, however it is impossible to connect via
PDO::mysql and TCP (eg. to another host)
Defaults for PDO::mysql should be:
- connect via TCP
- hostname is localhost

I just installed a LAMP server on my system and my.cnf specify that the socket
is run on /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock
php.ini by default has no settings set for mysql.default_socket but has a
builtin option (which I suppose it /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock since my error was
showing a trying connection to that path).
Since /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock is not where the socket is. I changed the
setting in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini so that
mysql.default_socket=/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock
But the php.ini directive seems to be totally ignored.
I did a small workaround by adding a symlink to the socket in /var/lib/mysql/
