Probably introduced with a recent update to either gpg or gpg-agent. When symmetrically encrypting a file, gpg outputs the string "gpg: problem with the agent: Not implemented" and returns error code 2 after completion. The file does get successfully encrypted; however, since gpg returns error code 2, any scripts that use gpg will assume that the gpg failed (since the return code was not zero) and fail themselves. When the installer makes it to the Installation Settings screen, I opened the Booting screen, then Bootloader Options and changed the boot time from 8 seconds to 3. After saving the option, when the installer returns to the Installation Settings screen, a dialog pops up that reads "Custom bootloader isn't available anymore. Would you like to proceed with the default bootloader." I have not yet tried to reproduce this on actual hardware, so it may be a vbox thing. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run the installer. 2. Change the boot time from 8 to 3 seconds in GRUB's options 3. Save the changes. Actual Results: A custom bootloader dialog pops up explaining that the custom bootloader is no longer available. Because the comments provide useful and sometimes even very important information for the admin, the yast2-printer AutoYaST client destroys information. Because the ordering in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf in the cloned system is the well known upstream ordering, an unexpected strange re-ordering makes it very hard to understand the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file afterwards. Therefore the bug severity is "major". This is necessary because often the same name (mail.example.com or smtp.example.com) is used both as a relay and to handle incoming mail. Only the relay needs authentication, and so is given one physical machine, while other physical machines handle the main mail volume. In such a case, MX records point to the "other" machines, and [] is necessary to use the "real" machine (which is the only one with autentication). I tracked it down to the fact, that NM since 0.8 apparently remembers the "suspended" setting over a restart / reboot. During suspend, pm-utils calls dbus-send --system \ --print-reply --reply-timeout=200 \ --dest=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager \ /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager \ org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.sleep During resume, it wakes up NM by calling dbus_send --system \ --dest=org.freedesktop.NetworkManager \ --print-reply --reply-timeout=200 \ /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager \ org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.wake If the machine crashes during suspend, the .wake is not called and NM remains suspended forever. No matter if it those pm-utils calls are stupid or not, IMHO NetworkManager should not remember this setting via a restart or even a reboot of the machine. And we were told, that their version updates in released branches are in fact maintenance updates. In fact, what they are fixing in new versions are only D1 and D2 bugs with no easy workarounds. D1 means security, crashes and data corruption/loss. D2 means that database either returns wrong data or there is a severe performance regression (also without any easy workaround). So maybe we should consider doing MySQL version updates in openSUSE. Advantages: - less back porting work for me - maybe less work for security team (but we need to track security for SLE anyway) - official and officially supported fixes - fixes for bugs that our users will hit in future before they hit them - risk shouldn't be high - might be good marketing point [1] Disadvantages: - more QA work for me (and maybe others) - bigger updates - people might be scared Basically I want to do the update to the latest 5.0.90 in opsenSUSE 11.1/11.0 now and discuss/create process of what should I do when 5.0.91 will be released... Rebooting and starting the ndiswrapper with a newly resetted wlan-chip worked fine again. The performance of the rt61pci-driver is often even bad (about the half of the windowsdriver), if the notebook is placed 2 m beside the AP nothing but air between them. A brief investigation showed me that all of the passwords in /etc/passwd had been removed. /etc/shadow did not contain passwords, either. No passwords. Comparing the {shadow,passwd} files to their {shadow,passwd}.YaST2save counterparts revealed part of the problem - /etc/passwd did have the passwords in it. I had temporarily disabled shadow passwords with 'pwunconv' at some point. However, I've also added users, changed passwords, and so on using the console 'useradd', 'groupmod' (the standard pwdutils suite) without error for *months*, years even. One use of yast2 users and my passwords would have been lost (except for the backup files. yay backups!). Please fix yast2 users to NOT hose password entries. Does it not just call out to the standard pwdutils utilities? If not, it should. There is a reason why they exist! There was no Java showing up on about:plugins. I had both Javas installed, openJDK as well as Sun. As soon as I deinstalled openJDK, about:plugins showed a Java plugin, and I see my ILOM pages again. Now I do the "zypper patch", where I get a lot of patterns-openSUSE-something updated from 11.2-20.22.1 to 11.3-1.1.1 (is this a feauture?), and among other small files the both packages I just deinstalled are there again. And boom! - no Java plugin in Firefox, no looking at the ILOM indicators. Now I have to deinstall them via YaST, where I can mark them as "never install this!" so it won't bother me again... Unfortunately, Opera recognizes the Java environment, but does not cooperaty with any of those (openJDK, Sun), so I can't even switch the browser for looking at those pages... Update Firefox to 3.6 from the mozilla repository 2. start FF, open an new tab with URL about:plugins OR look at Extras -> AddOns -> Plugins: no Java; looking at pages containing Java does not work 3. rpm -e java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin-1.6.0.0_b16-5.10.1.x86_64 java-1_6_0-openjdk-1.6.0.0_b16-5.10.1.x86_64 4. step 2 again, but: Java plugin is there; pages containing Java are back to work Actual Results: After I removed java-1_6_0-openjdk-plugin and java-1_6_0-openjdk, FF showed the Java pages again. Apparently, the openJDK plugin confuses FF. This I can say because the reinstallation of openJDK as dependency by some "patterns-opensuse" brings FF 3.6 back to "I don't work with Java" :-( http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/firefox_newplugin.xml may explain why. Expected Results: I do not need openJDK since I have Sun's Java installed. I do not want openJDK because it does not cooperate with FF 3.6.
