When running xrdp on openSUSE 11.1 as server and connecting by rdesktop from a client machine running openSUSE 11.1 and selecting the Desktop KDE4 from the xrdp login panel, the Xwindow that starts in the client is not a KDE4 window. Instead it is a black screen with an inset bearing the following sentence: "KDE seems to be already running on this display." This is a duplicate of this bug reported earlier for openSUSE 11.2 alpha: 482399 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=482399 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.run this command from an openSUSE 11.1 client: rdesktop -z servername 2. supply credentials for the default KDE4 desktop 3. I'm reporting this duplicate of a bug from alpha 11.2 in case ppl think xrdp works in openSUSE 11.1 serving a KDE4 desktop. It hasn't worked since 11.1 was released, to the present. There is a workaround until the bug is fixed: Don't install xrdp RPM from /dreveman:/nomad/openSUSE_11.1 Don't install the RPMs for xorg-x11-server-dmx and xorg-x11-server-rdp from repo-oss Do install the xrdp RPM supplied from "update server", currently xrdp-0.4.1-16.7.1 Do install the RPMs for xorg-x11-server-dmx and xorg-x11-server-rdp from factory currently /dreveman:/nomad/openSUSE_11.1 This mixture works at today's date 22 May. With openSUSE_11.4 I can't get the device to work. qcserial has the correct gobi 2000 USB device id and /dev/ttyUSB0 also gets created. The bug is easy to reproduce: just enter ":py print 'hello'" in vim. This is really a showstopper, because some usefull vim-plugins are based on python-scripts (e.g. debugger-plugin for xdebug). I found the main problem with the devtools to be the skeletons (e.g. http://svn.opensuse.org/svn/yast/trunk/devtools/devtools/skeletons/config/s… ). A quick improvement of the Tutorials would be to mention that there is a style guide that should be read and applied, while apologizing that the tutorial in current state does not reflect that in every case. In an discussion in irc it was mentioned that reworking the tutorial (and i guess the config skeleton) might be a great Junior Job (JJ), as it automatically brings you closer to YCP. This forces me to assemble and mount the filesystem before updating anything on /boot. I guess this will happen with other devices besides root and resume as well. >From initrd md script I see only /dev/md1 is assembled because it is a device with root filesystem. /dev/md0 isn't written anywhere on initrd. It is slower than the theoretical performance of the 100Mbit network, but still it's OK. With Linux clients I have a max of 2Mb/s (Megabytes/seconds) On WinXP, I don't know the speed, but it is definately faster, much faster (copy of a 700MB iso in about 2mins). In order to ensure that I do not use disk cache, I have the same iso copies 14 times in the HD. (01-14). It's not a LAN issue, because: * iperf reports from 90mbps to 95mbps (bi-directionally) * reads from shares via fish/scp are acceptable (7,0Mb/sec and 7.5Mb/s respectively). Increasing smb log level, resulted to no helpful messages. I was sure that the server was performing better, much better actually (7.5-8Mb/s), when I used the openSUSE 11.3. So, at first I downgraded kernel. No change. Speeds were slow (1,5Mb/sec) Then, I disabled the ipv6 (from boot options). Again, speeds were slow (1,5Mb/s) Then, I restored the original 11.4 samba packages: Kernel: Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2-default Samba: samba-3.5.7-1.17.1.i586 samba-client-3.5.7-1.17.1.i586 samba-doc-3.5.7-3.5.1.noarch samba-krb-printing-3.5.7-3.5.1.i586 yast2-samba-client-2.20.2-3.1.noarch yast2-samba-server-2.20.2-3.1.noarch samba-winbind-3.5.7-1.17.1.i586 Now, I have a read speed of 5Mb/s.
