For instance, a file identified by file command as an "UTF-8 Unicode English text", but containing in fact Spanish text (an user language profile is Spanish, also), is rendered as iso 8859-15. As the file is utf-8, "apología" is rendered as "apologÃa", &c. User can not tweak this behavior through Tools Menu > Codification, because the behavior is fixed, although Preferences Menu > Set up Editor > Open/Save item > General tab stated as default codification "Unicode (UTF-8)", automatic codification detection, and as alternative codification "West Europe (ISO 8859-15)". Disabling the automatic detection does not work either. There is only one way to workaround this issue: it is needed to disable the automatic detection and to set "Unicode (UTF-8)" as alternative codification too. Then, the document will be rendered properly, and also will work tweaking this behavior through Tools Menu > Codification. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.See above. 2. 3. Actual Results: See above. Expected Results: I think it is not a big issue, but it would be desirable that automatic detection of the codification works, or, at least, that the user easily set it up. None, except that (so far as I have experienced till now) 12.1 seems to be the best release since 10.2. The only way to correct it is restarting X server (service xdm restart). There are two different scenarios what happens: 1) I can move the cursor but items on panel aren't highlighted when I point at them and clicking them has no effect. The mouse works fine inside program windows (e.g. Firefox), but it does not work on the window decoration (e.g. close button). Probably applications get mouse events but Plasma/Kwin does not. 2) I can move the cursor, items on panel and window decoration get highlighted, I can click them and they more or less work (more on that later), but it doesn't work inside program windows (e.g. scrolling in Firefox or Kopete doesn't work as well as clicking anything). Some widgets open but don't work well, for example clicking Kickoff opens a menu but nothing gets highlighted when I move the cursor over it and I cannot click anything. Probably Plasma/Kwin gets the mouse events but the applications don't. Keyboard works fine all the time, so I can grab any logs or anything. I can restart Kwin (kwin --replace &), *sometimes* it helps but most of the time it does not. Sometimes it changes the "states". If it helps (i.e. Plasma gets mouse events and applications get it too) it won't stay this long, it breaks in less than a minute. I've tried to watch .xsession-errors, but I haven't noticed anything extraordinary. I'll post it here when it happens again (I've done about 15 Kwin restarts in this session so I'm not sure what has got logged when it happened first and it doesn't include time/date unfortunately). Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start KDE Plasma Workspace 2. Use it for a while (hour or so, it depends) Actual Results: Plasma stops reacting to mouse events. Expected Results: Nothing extraordinary. First I have to say that I use KDE 4.6.4 from Tumbleweed, I hope I've filled the bug correctly, I haven't found a way to fill bugs against it. I can fix this by restarting KDRC (and loging in to windows again) which is a pain. Or doing the following in KDRC: 1 Switch to window mode (from fullscreen mode). 2 Click the 'New Connection' button. 3 Close the 'New Connection' tab. 4 Enter 'Full Screen' mode for the still active windows connection. After this my keyboard entries and mouse clicks work normal again. I am only using the Intel graphics driver. Because I have been trying a lot of settings, X didn't start anymore. Removing the nvidia drivers (nvidia/nouveau) solved it. When I type in the console "s2ram -n" I get: Machine unknown This machine can be identified by: sys_vendor = "Hewlett-Packard" sys_product = "Presario V5000 (EW848EA#ABU) " sys_version = "F.54" bios_version = "F.54" I have updated bios to the newest version a long time ago. I scanned my ram and it passed the test. I have never had any problems with my hardware on windows XP and suspend and hibernation works perfect on this operating system. I can't say the same thing about Linux systems :( I have tested suspend feature on openSUSE, Mandriva, Debian, Gentoo, Kubuntu, Fedora with LXDE, YlmfOS with Gnome and I have problem with waking up the system from suspend on all of them. Basically when I select suspend from menu or type the command in console laptop goes to sleep fine but when I switch it back on I can hear the cd-rom waking up, I see hdd led flashing for a wile but I can't actually hear it working, screen and wi-fi led won't even blink and after few seconds I can hear the fan on a high speed but that's it, keyboard doesn't respond either. I have to press and hold the switch button for few seconds to restart the system. With hibernation it is different. When I select hibernate from menu or type the command in console it freezes immediately when I get hibernating splash screen or the message "s2disk: Snapshotting system" on the screen. And again I have to press and hold the switch button for few seconds to restart the system. I haven't had that problem with hibernation in Mandriva 2010.1 Free x86_64. My hdd partitions look like that: /dev/sda1 - windows C - 10 GB /dev/sda2 - swap - 2.5 GB /dev/sda3 - windows D - 111 GB /dev/sda5 - / - 10 GB /dev/sda6 - /home - 98 GB I was the same partition layout when I had Mandriva installed. I have the system up to date (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.7-desktop with KDE 4.4.4 release 3). I use original open drivers for my graphics card and wi-fi.
