There are three issues here: 1) If the system is still performing activity and making the user wait, then it's wrong to word the message with the past tense, as if the activity has already been finished. The messages should instead read "Creating New Printer Setup" and "Modifying Printer Setup". 2) "It takes half a minute"? That's rather precise. How does the system know that it's going to take exactly half a minute? Doesn't the processing time depend on the speed of the user's computer, including CPU frequency, disk speed, and system load? Please replace this message with a progress bar, or with a more vague "Updating configuration files..." 3) Even if it is known that the configuration files take exactly thirty minutes to update, the message is grammatically incorrect. It should instead be "It takes half a minute to update the configuration files" or "It will be half a minute until the configuration files are updated". You can't use the present form of "take" with "until". She has to switch to 'Installation summary' view to see pkgs that are going to be installed/removed as a result of resolved conflict It is more user-friendly to switch to summary view automatically so as to show the user the changes made - in pretty much the same way as in bug #399795, where the user is presented summary screen to confirm pkg removal. The search view with empty list makes an impression that nothing has happened/changed. (Because I somehow didn't expect that a SIGKILL would be send magically out of nowhere.) Then, I stumbled across a suse-specific killproc oddity: killproc sends signals to all processes that use the specified exe‐ cutable. If no signal name is specified, the signal SIGTERM is sent. If this program is not called with the name killproc then SIGHUP is used. Note that if SIGTERM is used and does not terminate a process the signal SIGKILL is send after a few seconds (default is 5 seconds, see option -t). If a program has been terminated successfully and a veri‐ fied pid file was found, this pid file will be removed if the termi‐ nated process didn't already do so. .. -t<sec> The number <sec> specifies the seconds to wait between the sent signal SIGTERM and the subsequentially signal SIGKILL if the first SIGTERM does not show any result within the first few milli seconds. This defaults to 5 seconds. So, if -TERM is specified, this automatically escalates to KILL (this escalation cannot be disabled). However, LSB states (http://refspecs.freestandards.org/LSB_3.1.1/LSB-Core-generic/LSB-Core-gener…) killproc [-p pidfile] pathname [signal] The killproc function shall stop the specified program. The program is found using the algorithm given above. If a signal is specified, using the -signal_name or -signal_number syntaxes as specified by the kill command, the program is sent that signal. Otherwise, a SIGTERM followed by a SIGKILL after an unspecified number of seconds shall be sent. [...] Note that this says that this automatic escalation only happens if no signal is specified, not if the specified signal happens to be the default SIGTERM. ("killproc" on RHEL/Fedora behaves like this.) I think killproc must differentiate between "No signal specified" versus "SIGTERM explicitly specified". Open yast printer configuration dialog Actual Results: I can see the busy cursor for 1 or 2 minutes, then receive dialog "cups server not accessible" with ok button - click ok and get access to the config dialog, but once I click somewhere on it I again receive busy cursor for 1/2 mins and can do nothing with this. That's nearly 20% of / partition size. I suggest to include package tmpwatch in Base pattern. (Package is already in Factory for more than 2 years). It removes files from /tmp (with some exceptions) that were not touched for more than 10 days and from /var/tmp that were not touched for more than 30 days. (For details see /etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch). If this behaviour is not wanted for servers I suggest to include it at least in X11 pattern. Googling showed me this page http://www.linux.org.za/Lists-Archives/glug-tech-1001/msg00009.html and really doing sysctl kernel.printk="4 4 1 7" stops console logging with rsyslog. But I don't want this, I want rsyslog to behave like syslog-ng. Any ideas how to disable iptables logs with rsyslog? BTW: the iptabes rule causing that log is $IPTABLES -A RULE_19 -j LOG --log-level info --log-prefix "lastdrop " --log-tcp-options --log-ip-options but as I said with syslog-ng it works correctly. The same partition is used for the same purpose by my working opensuse 11.2. When I try to log in as normal user I get an error message telling me the tmp cannot be accessed with the question if it is maybe full. It has a size of 2Gb so that's not the problem. When I log in as root I have no problem, so then I changed the rights to rw for all users and I can log in as user after that. Upon reboot however, I have the same thing again, there is no write access to tmp by any user except root, which defeats the purpose of an encrypted tmp. The openSUSE 11.2 release notes contain none of the keywords "AVM", "Fritz", or "driver". 2.) In hardware configuration, ISDN section configure the listed "unconfigured" device. 3. Click OK. Actual Results: A message appears promising I'll be able to use the card if I follow the instructions given, but the instructions turn out to be impossible to follow. Expected Results: Either instructions that can be followed, or a message stating that the device cannot be used with openSUSE 11.2.
