The test unjars some jars with ant twice; the second run of unjar is much slower on xfs then on ext3. How do I get xfs to be as fast as ext3? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install ant and java, create an ext3 and an xfs fs (e.g. with yast), I tested with a size of 1GB 2. unpack the attached tar.gz on each fs 3. for every fs: cd test && sync && ant clean && ant && ant Actual Results: xfs: Total time: 1 minute 2 seconds ext3: Total time: 2 seconds Expected Results: The times should be the same on both partitions. I tried to tune the xfs fs and mount, but got no improvements. The server is in a cluster room and one of it's functions is to monitor the room's temperature. This is done by a sensor (from MessPC.de) attached to the USB port. This sensor is being read by two processes, one started by NAGIOS every two minutes, and a second one logging the temperature data to a file every 30s. About once a week the 2nd process logging to the file hangs and no more data can be read from the USB port. Killing this process makes the system Oops and, since nmi_watchdog is set to 1, it reboots. This happened already several times. We were using kernel-default from openSUSE 11.2, updated later a newer kernel from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/openSUSE-11.2/openSUSE_11…, last one with the Oops from today was kernel-default-2.6.31.14-2.1.x86_64, and now we updated to today's one, kernel-default-2.6.31.14-2.1.x86_64. There is nothing logged in /var/log/messages. On a remote IP over KVM console showing /dev/tty10 I did a screenshot of the last messages there before rebooting, see attached file. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Wait for temperature monitor to fail. 2. Kill usb port reading process. 3. System oops and reboot. I will try to reproduce it starting two infinite loops reading from the USB port in parallel, since I *guess* it could be a race condition from the two processes trying to read data from the same USB port. Actual Results: Oops and reboot. After the pc was down for hours and the _bios_ reports temperatures between 30-40°C, xubuntu halts and Opensuse 11.2 _could_ show the message "Critical temperature reached (121C), shutting down" and it does _not_ shutdown immediately, but it could be that it shuts down immediately. This is the message, which I get with Opensuse 11.2: "kernel:[ 1132.162512] Critical temperature reached (121C), shutting down". It can be that the system stays alive for a while, as I monitored the last 2 days. At the moment the uptime is about 30min. When I try to install Xubuntu, the installation is interrupted with an unknown error and immediately after the start the message "Critical temperature reached" is shown twice. The freeze only occurs when wireless is plugged in with 2.6.31.12-0.2 kernel, within 20 minutes (sometimes within 10 seconds) of successful WLAN connection. Freeze is a freeze. Flashing caps lock. No response to any key press. No mouse movement. Only holding down power button for 10 seconds will switch OFF laptop integrated display. Wireless with the 2.6.31.12-0.2 will occur with 10 seconds to 20 minutes (random) after wireless is enabled/successfully-connected. There are no error message entries in the /var/log/messages, nor /var/log/Xorg.0.conf, nor dmesg, nor /home/oldcpu/.xsession-errors. Hardware is: 04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection [8086:4235] Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:1121] Kernel driver in use: iwlagn Freeze occurs on 2.6.31.12-0.2 kernel-desktop with both radeonhd and fglrx graphic drivers (hence not believed to be driver related). Since freeze never occurs with wired connected, that also supports theory this is wireless related. Since freeze does NOT occur with 2.6.31.5 kernel, that supports theory this is kernel related to Intel PRO/Wireless 5300AGN. Error messages observed on <ALT><F10> konsole when freeze occurs with 2.6.31.12 notes a "kernel bug". Installation of compat-wireless-kmp-desktop version 2.6.34_2.6.31.05_0.1-2.1 and compat-wireless-scripts version 2.6.34-2.1 does not stop the freeze. While I flagged this as "Critical", in truth this is not urgent for me as I can survive on 2.6.31.5 kernel for wireless and 2.6.31.12 kernel for everything else (with a dual boot). I am concerned what ever was introduced by one of the two 2.6.31.12 kernels (or possible a kernel just before 2.6.31.12) could then be introduced by mistake in 2.6.34 kernel during an effort to be helpful to 2.6.34 kernel. Again, I note 11.3 milestone7 2.6.34 kernel works well from 64-bit KDE liveCD on this hardware. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot to 2.6.31.12 kernel and enable wireless (with no wired connected) 2. 3. Actual Results: Always get a freeze at a random time, from 10 seconds to 20 minutes after the boot. Expected Results: No freeze is expected. HP Pavilion tx2532la hardware information at https://bugzillafiles.novell.org/attachment.cgi?id=332784 The boot or reboot, after previously hardware deactivating Wireless card or Mousepad through laptop buttons, hangs, the CapsLock key is enlighted and the laptop remains unresponsive to ACPI stimuli. It has to be turned-off through the Power button. The next time is powered on, the default boot process flows correctly, even still being hardware deactivated Wireless card and Moudepad. No messages, so far I have noticed, concerning this issue in /var/log/boot.msg or /var/log/messages. As the hang takes place soon starting the booting, I have not got the chance (by pressing Esc key) to see at what step of the boot process the OS load stops. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Hardware deactivate Wireless card or Mousepad through laptop buttons 2.Reboot or turn-off the System. 3.The next boot will hang, the CapsLock key will remain enlighted and the laptop will remain unresponsive to ACPI stimuli. 4. Power-off the laptop through the Power button. 5. Power-on it again: the default boot process will flow correctly, even still being hardware deactivated Wireless card and Moudepad. Actual Results: Boot process hangs, so the laptop has to be powered-off and powered-on to make the operating system to be load. Expected Results: A normal boot process, in despite of I previously had hardware deactivated my Wireless card or my Mousepad. That I haven't to care about whether I deactivated my Wireless card or my Mousepad to have a normal boot. Concerning the hardware deactivation of the Wireless card, this issue happened not with the previous kernel. Concerning the hardware deactivation of the Mousepad, this issue was not noticed related to the previous kernel because I never deactivated it till now, because I have just bought an USB mouse. Give me suggestions about which logs would you need to recollect the needed information.
