As soon as I select page setup or print in the file menu of either firefox or thunderbird, the application crashes. I use the latest firefox/thunderbird from the opensuse Mozilla repository. This crash also happens with openSUSE 11.1 using the latest 1.4.4 versions of cups. This crash does NOT happen with cups 1.3.x provided by the distribution and also did not happen with later 1.4 versions installed. It did appear after an update to 1.4.4-48 about a week ago. But, anyway, here goes: For personal reasons, I like to set the following option in /etc/zypp/zypp.conf: commit.downloadMode = DownloadInAdvance In this case, IMHO, the "perform installation" screen should have two progress bars, one showing how much of the current package is being downloaded, and one showing how many more packages are to be downloaded, then installed. As it is now, the "bottom" progress bar stays at 0% while downloading, giving no clue as to whether this will take ages or just a few seconds more... Too bad! ICMP echo should not be a requirement for adding a remote printer. A simple tcp ping on the specified port should be good enough, syn, syn/ack, ack. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Add a printer from Yast. 2.Choose the connection Wizard 3.Choose TCP and fill in the blanks with the destination being a printer in a network that the client does not have ICMP echo open to. (remote printer is Firewalled, access listed, etc...) 4.Test the connection. Actual Results: Observed with TCP dump that the connection wizard was attempting ICMP echo to the printer ip address and then failing without ever attempting a tcp connection on the port specified. (Telnet from console on the tcp port to the printer works fine) Expected Results: Connection wizard should not rely on ICMP echo to check the availability of a device. A connection to the actual TCP port specified should instead be attempted. It displays an error message "failed to read /var/lib/YaST2/autodetected_print_queues.ycp. The yast2 log shows that it fails when re-reading /var/lib/YaST2/autodetected_print_queues.ycp (see attached y2log snippet). Yast2 printer then permanently fails, and not printers can be configured anymore. Previously configures printers keep working, though. To recover, I had to change the printer description string in /etc/printcap, /etc/cups/printers.conf and /etc/cups/printers.conf.0, removing the ". Afterwards, everything is back to normal. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. add a printer with yast2. 2. edit the printer entry, use " anywhere in the description string 3. click "finish" Actual Results: Yast2 fails to read /var/lib/YaST2/autodetected_print_queues.ycp and displays an error message. Printer configuration from now on permanently fails for this reason. Expected Results: Yast2 does not fail, but catch entering quotes in the description string. This bug is also present in 11.2.
